Doom Roguelike

About this entry

DRL (formerly known as Doom, the Roguelike or DoomRL) is a popular, free, turn-based roguelike game developed by ChaosForge and released in 2005. It reimagines the classic first-person shooter Doom as a fast-paced, tactical roguelike. Players navigate procedurally generated levels and fight hordes of demons using weapons and items inspired by the original game. It features character leveling, a trait-based progression system, and both ASCII and graphical tileset options. In 2016, following a cease-and-desist from ZeniMax Media regarding the Doom trademark, the game was renamed to DRL. Its spiritual successor is Jupiter Hell.

Doom Roguelike is listed as a Fan Games & Homebrew entry in CheckpointDB's preservation database.

It is grouped under Strategy|Roguelike, making it easier to compare with related preservation projects and enhanced classics.

This record is treated as its own version or project, separate from normal game database entries.
