Data Sources & Methodology

CheckpointDB combines structured game metadata with user-created organization tools. This page explains what comes from data sources, what comes from people, and how corrections work.

Game Metadata

Game records can include metadata from sources such as IGDB, RAWG, and HowLongToBeat where available. Typical fields include title, release date, platform, genre, screenshots, ratings, stores, videos, and completion-time estimates.

Human-Curated Content

Curator notes, featured collections, official tier-list templates, help pages, policy pages, and methodology notes are reviewed before they are presented as site guidance. User-created collections and tier lists are labeled through their normal community context.

Metadata-Driven Features

Discovery lists, similar games, genre groupings, series pages, platform pages, and some recommendation surfaces may use database fields and matching rules. These sections are meant to help navigation, not replace editorial reviews.

Updates And Corrections

Game metadata can be incomplete or change over time. If a title, platform, release date, image, collection, or profile detail looks wrong, send the page URL and correction through Contact or Feedback.
