Spotlight on SteamWorld Dig 2
An exceptionally satisfying, highly addictive digging Metroidvania. SteamWorld Dig 2 merges an addictive harvest-loot-upgrade progression loop with tight platforming exploration and satisfying steampunk traversal tools, delivering a highly polished, cozy adventure.
SteamWorld Dig 2 is a highly acclaimed, steampunk action-adventure Metroidvania that centers on digging, resource gathering, and platforming traversal. You play as Dorothy, a steampunk robot searching for a missing friend in a massive, subterranean mining desert. The core gameplay loop involves digging vertically into the earth using a pickaxe, drilling through hard stone, and collecting valuable minerals to sell at the surface town hub. You use the earned gold to purchase permanent upgrades for your water tanks, pressure engine, armor, and inventory slots. Progression is governed by locating ancient temples that grant Metroidvania relic keys—such as a Jetpack for high vertical traversal, a Hookshot to latch onto ceilings, and a Pressure Bomb to blast distant blocks. Traversal is extremely satisfying: as Dorothy gains upgrades, slow vertical digging transitions into a fast, fluid playground of hookshotting, rocket-boosting, and bomb-blasting through underground caverns.
