Spotlight on Ori and the Will of the Wisps
An incredibly beautiful, visually spectacular Metroidvania. Ori and the Will of the Wisps masterfully merges the kinetic, physics-defying movement of modern platformers with tight, satisfying action combat and a deeply emotional story, creating a visual and auditory masterpiece.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a breathtaking, highly kinetic 2D Metroidvania that improves upon its predecessor's precision platforming by introducing a deep, highly active combat system. In the vast, decaying forest of Niwen, you guide the small guardian spirit Ori. Traversal is exceptionally fluid and dynamic, centering on the 'Bash' mechanic—allowing Ori to grab projectiles or enemies in mid-air and launch off them, propelling the projectile in the opposite direction. The game features spectacular precision-platforming chase sequences where you must run, double-jump, dash, and grapple through crumbling environments in real-time. Combat is completely overhauled into a responsive, weapon-based system where Ori swings a light sword, fires spirit arrows, and equips customizable passive 'Spirit Shards' that alter health parameters, damage scaling, or movement utilities. Beautifully rendered in a painterly visual style with a soaring, emotional orchestral soundtrack, the game runs at a flawless 60fps on modern platforms including the Switch and Steam Deck.
