The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a massive open-world adventure that brilliantly expands Hyrule into three seamless layers: the sky islands, the familiar surface, and the pitch-black underground Depths. Link's new mechanical core centers on a suite of systemic abilities: Ultrahand, which allows free-form physical combination of wood, metal, and ancient Zonai devices (like fans, rockets, flame-throwers, and control sticks) to construct functional cars, flying machines, and bridges; Fuse, which lets you attach any environmental item, monster horn, or elemental gel to weapons, shields, and arrows to dynamically alter damage and durability (e.g., fusing a ruby to an arrow to shoot fireballs, or combining a puffshroom with a shield to create smoke screens on parry); Ascend, which lets players swim vertically through solid ceilings; and Recall, which reverses time for specific moving objects. The Depths introduce a punishing 'Gloom' mechanic that permanently locks away heart containers until Link consumes meals cooked with Sundelion plants or activates glowing Lightroots that map the pitch-black underworld.
