Barkley: Shut Up and Jam! Gaiden

About this entry

Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden is a legendary freeware role-playing game developed by Tales of Game's Studios and released in 2008. The game is an absurdist, post-apocalyptic JRPG that serves as a joking canonical sequel to both the 1994 game Barkley Shut Up and Jam! and the 1996 film Space Jam. Set in the year 2053 in Neo New York, the story follows Charles Barkley, who has been living in seclusion after his 'Chaos Dunk' killed millions and led to the outlawing of basketball. When a new Chaos Dunk occurs and Barkley is framed, he must go on a quest to clear his name. The game features traditional turn-based combat with timed button presses similar to Super Mario RPG, and is celebrated for its brilliant writing that treats its ridiculous premise with deadpan seriousness.

Barkley: Shut Up and Jam! Gaiden is listed as a Fan Games & Homebrew entry in CheckpointDB's preservation database.
